{Baby Bump for Beth}

Wow, I can’t believe that “Baby C” is going to arrive any day now!  Sweet Beth is on the home stretch and her baby girl will be on the way anytime now.  We did a nice relaxed shoot down at back bay.  The lighting was great and the weather perfect!  Her hubby came along for a bit too.  Everything went smoothly until we came across a little snake, which you would think may have brought on screams but instead I think Beth said, “oh cool” and I got close to take a photo!  Check it out at the end of the blog.  In all seriousness Dave and Beth are going to make amazing parents to their first arrival!  God bless you both and your little one.  See you soon for the newborn shoot, can’t wait to meet her and find out her name!!!!

… and here was our surprise guest!

What’s a First Look?  Should I do one?  What’s the benefit?  Let me tell you I love doing first look photos for my brides and grooms.  A first look photo is when the bride and groom decide to see each other before the ceremony and take pictures.  We always find a private place to do the reveal so that the moment can be intimate and special.  In this photo the bride snuck up around the tree.  I love their expressions and huge smiles!  I love it when the bride and groom choose to do a first look because it let’s us get all of the bridal party and bride and groom photos taken care of before the ceremony.  It also gives us extra time to do any other creative or styled photos (re: add in props, thank you signs, silly mustaches, etc…)  Why is that awesome?  Because then once the ceremony is done all we have left is family portraits and the bride and groom get to actually attend the cocktail hour!  We also don’t have to worry about losing light if it is a later wedding or a winter wedding.  I never push a couple to do a first look, it is always completely up to them! I just wanted to share a few pluses to doing one.  About 70% of my brides and grooms choose to do a first look.

{Forell Family}

I was so excited to do this family shoot.  It has been a little while since I have photographed a big family full of laughs!!  I was also very excited for this shoot because the cute one with the baby bump is one of my friends and so is her husband.  I can’t wait to meet their little girl come late June.  I keep telling Crystal aim early and pop her out on my birthday, June 11th:) I hope you enjoy looking through this family shoot as much as I did shooting it!  Thanks Forells and Tousignant!s!!

One of my life’s lessons has to be from my Nana.  She always said “DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF”!  She was brilliant, because when life gets stressful I now choose to relax, laugh, have fun and move on.  A little humor is good for the soul and a lot of laughter is good for the heart.  Hope you are all having a happy Wednesday and laughing your socks off!

{Niki + David Engagement}

I had so much fun on this morning shoot over at Cal State Fullerton.  Niki and David have such fun personalities which makes my job pretty easy, and it helps that they have been in love for quite some time now.  These two have been together forever!  Seriously… you should see their prom picture:) I am so excited to shoot Niki and David’s Newport Beach wedding 7-7-12.  Considering all of their amazing friends and family I know their wedding will be quite the celebration!! Congrats you two!  Can’t wait for July!!

My favorite part about being a photographer is meeting so many amazing people.  Every job I do whether it is a wedding, a kids shoot, a story for publication or a personal documentary project I am able to get to know every client.  I not only get to know them but many times I get to know their “story”.  Sometimes they will open up and share about their good times, hard times and triumphs in life.  My favorite is when they share life advice with me.  Just recently I had the pleasure of photographing a sweet lady and her husband for a National Charity League  publication.  Adrienne and her husband Morton will be married for 56 years this summer!  Those two love birds got married right out of high school!  We had a really fun photo shoot out in Palm Springs but I must admit the best part of the day was heading back to their home and having tea and macaroons while chatting about life for 2 hours.  Adrienne and Morton have 4 daughters and 10 grandchildren!  It just so happens that two of her grandchildren and I both went to the University of Arizona (small world, but well it is a huge college).  Morton also gave me a signed copy of one of the recent books he has written, Theodore Roosevelt Rides Again!  A few of my favorites lines of advice they gave me were this… go to college, get married after college and marry a college graduate!  Looks like I have those first two parts down!  Another piece if advice Adrienne shared was really impactful.  She has had a couple of daughters that have struggled with cancer.  She shared about how tough it was and that the last thing you want to hear from others at that time is “oh my aunt had cancer and she made it through” or “oh I am sure she will be fine”.  Adrienne put it the next way when she said she would say “Oh you have cancer?  That sucks!  Let’s go get lunch”.  She read that in a book years ago and shared that she loves how it addresses the crappy news, the truth that it will be a struggle and we don;t know the outcome but what we can do now is be together, have a little fun and go grab some lunch.  Maybe we should be looking at many parts of our life like that.  We have all been dealt our hand and we have the choice of how we want to play it.  Just wanted to share that little story with you.  I truly cherish all of the conversations I have and all the sweet people I meet along the way while being a photographer.  I would love to share the photo shoot of Adrienne and Morton but it will have to wait until after the story has been published!  Here are two sneak peeks until then!

Rachel - Oh, that picture of the two of them? SO. SWEET.3.22.2011 – 2:55 pm

meghan kennedy - so sweet. and i love your blog look and logo!! :) 3.22.2011 – 2:58 pm

BankSea - I really love your photography the focus is perfect, including the one on the top, the fact that not a single object is in complete focus makes the image really interesting to look at. The second one give great contrast in focus between the couple and background. And the saturation in both images is really awesome. I will definitely be back for more updates.3.22.2011 – 9:25 pm

{Fine Art and Documentary Assignment}

I had the pleasure of doing a very different shoot a couple weeks back.  I love mixing things up and taking on new projects.  This job was to document the furniture making process for Encore company.  They design and produce modern furniture and chairs for the corporate and office world.  They are a sister company of Arcadia Contract which does the same but also modular and custom pieces.  Encore is hanging nine large fine art prints that I took of the factory that look abstract.  I can’t wait to see the final product up in the show room in Chicago this June.  Here are some of my favorites from the shoot.  Have any favorites?

Erin Journigan - What cool pictures! I’ll have to check them out when I’m in Chicago later this year. Fabulous work!3.22.2011 – 1:04 pm

auntie lynne - Hi Katelin,

Fab photos! Love your different perspectives! Hope to see you soon! Hello to all!

Ahhh how I love a little destination wedding whether it be at the Cape in MA or just around the corner in Palm Springs!  I just shot a beautiful wedding in Palm Springs this past weekend.  I am so excited to get straight to editing.  Megan and Thayer‘s wedding was at a huge private mid-centry modern home in the hills of Palm Springs.  Every detail of their wedding was perfect, thanks to Carissa of JL Designs and Megan!  Meg and Thayer are now happily relaxing off in Thailand for a few weeks but I can’t wait to share a few sneak peeks with them when they return!  Here is one of my favorite landscapes from the weekend.
